Independence Day Celebration!

Hey Friends! I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July weekend! We had the best one we have had in years! We started Friday with a big Celebrate America festival. It was amazing with prizes, games, live singers, performances, bounties castles, and even a small petting zoo for the kids! Plus they had the usual hamburgers, hotdogs, cotton candy, and the not so usual deep fried Oreos and Japanese pork bowls. Here are some a lot of pictures from the event.

The live stage. They performed a variety of great songs.

While I was holding a line down DC took Mason to play a game. He came back with a balloon.

Then we swapped and DC stood in line while I took Mason to a fishing game. We won a movie. I also realized how little I know about all current kid’s movies and characters.

We decided on the pork rice bowls with guacamole and cilantro for supper. We also shared an order of lumpia. Tell me if I am weird but I love eating all the food but often really crave at least one healthy side. We had no idea what food they would have, so to be prepared I brought along a big bowl of sautéed frozen vegetables. It actually worked out perfect with our rice bowls. #thatmom

You can see the wheels turning in his head. Pure trouble! Celebrate America

independence day

Mason was ALL about the petting zoo!

petting zoo

Next up was the guinea pigs. I was amazed at the set up they had. You just walked in a fence and they handed you a basket with a guinea pig or bunny rabbit. Mason was all for it!

petting zoo

At this point, we were repeating ‘be soft’ soooo many times! I felt like the protector of the animals.

zoo

Our friend loved the bunny rabbits as well.

While I was helping our friend with the rabbit I turned around to find DC and one of the zoo keepers had put Mason in with the pig. (insert palm to face)

pony rides

Then is was off to the pony rides. Again, the boy is not afraid of anything!

I was one nervous momma but he loved it.

Then is was to the goats.

Up close and personal. Again the repeating of ‘be soft Mason’.

zoo

Yes son, nose, good job. Now be soft. =)

After the petting zoo, they announced the prize winners and we headed out to put little man down for the night. He slept to 800 the next morning, which is a record for us over here!

Saturday

Saturday morning, I took Mason to the gym and got in a 25ish minutes workout before he was done. I took that as a win for a 14-month-old. Our gym does not have a day care but they do have a ‘parents gym’ with a blocked off play area. After the gym, we got ready to go to a cookout with friends. We headed out as soon as Mason woke up from his nap.

cookout

I failed to take pictures because we were having such a good time. We have not found it easy to find our friends here as we have in the past. So it was a blessing to get to spend time with friends.

day

We had pulled pork, broccoli salad, deviled eggs, potato salad, watermelon and this festive cake! Then we shared a s’more. #byebyewhole30 =)

Sunday

Sunday was a normal Sunday for us. We went to church and then came home for lunch and Mason’s nap. We went for a 4-mile stroll around the neighbor. Then we went back to clean up before church that night.

Mason likes it when momma has nursery.

Friends =)

We had such a fun weekend! I sometimes get sad thinking about being away from our family on the 4th of July. Growing up we always had a big cookout on the 4th. Being away from family can be tough around some of our favorite holidays. This one was a lot of fun though and while I missed my family I felt like we were with our extended family.

Monday DC was another day off so we are planning on another hiking adventure if the weather agrees with us. Check out our last Japan adventure here.

Questions: Have you ever tried fried Oreos? Did you like animals as a kid? How do you eat your marshmallow on your s’more?

XOXO
