Weekend Wrap Up Birthday Edition
Hey friends! Thanks for stopping by the blog today! I hope you had a fabulous weekend! Don’t forget to head over and enter the giveaway. I’ll be selecting a winning Monday night.
Sooo…..this weekend I turned the big 3-0. Luckily of my husband, I am not a huge birthday person. I mean I kind of look at it as being full of myself to celebrate myself. I did not do anything to be born ya know. I surely did not have any action or choice in the matter. So I am pretty low-key on ‘my day’. I DO use it to eat all the cake and ice cream or to get out of doing dishes. Other than that it is just another day for me. At any rate here is a little recap of our low-key birthday weekend….
My sweet friend took me out for lunch on Friday to celebrate. Since DC is not a big sushi person I took full advantage of their love for sushi. We went to a conveyor belt sushi restaurant.
Ever heard of conveyor belt sushi? Everyone sits at tables around a large conveyor belt with plates of sushi. Each plate is a color that represents the price of the plate. You can also order by yelling out what you want. Most of these have a digital ordering pad but this one you just yell it out. I could do so many posts on the fun restaurants here in Japan.
Post lunch selfie with these sweet faces!
After lunch, we headed home for Mason’s nap time then went to a bento box event at the library.
Sorry for the blurry iPhone picture but how cute is the Hello Kitty rice?!?!
After the library I voted to head over to a local bakery for cake and ice cream. i mean it is my birthday right?!
This place is just a few blocks from our house and they have the best ice cream! We have been known to walk over for ice cream after dinner. The walking cancels it out right?!
So much delicious cakes! One thing about Japanese sweets is that they are not super sugar sweet. You do not get the head rush sugar high you do when getting a big piece of traditional birthday cake.
We went for a strawberry and a chocolate with ice cream to share. I am normally not a chocolate person but the chocolate was our favorite! Like a light brownie with icing and ice cream.
Mason agreed! #datcurlthough
After dinner we played and hung out for the night.
Saturday morning started off with pancakes and lots of play. Then we headed out early to pick up a few items to mail to a friend. First stop was Starbucks. I have not had Starbucks in at least a year plus I had a gift card from the church from Mother’s Day.
Then DC voted for donuts!
Japan LOVES their donuts and we have never in our 2 years here had donuts. They were amazing! What is it about the donut hole being so good? I am not a big donut person but give me all the donut holes! Mason agreed!
Then it was off to the store….so much candy!
I have not seen candy cigs in a longgg time!
After getting all our shopping done we headed home for lunch and Mason’s nap. During his nap, I headed out to the gym.
I just got this top from ThredUp and loved it!
I returned home just as Mason was waking up. We headed to the park and some friends house for the night.
Sunday morning I was up at ‘mom hours’ with a teething little guy. He woke up at 4:45. I gave him his pacifier and he still tossed and turned. Then the tossing turned into standing up and talking. I was determined not to get him out of his crib before 6. Finally, after I went in and rocked him and then some more tossing he went back to sleep. Poor baby!
While all of this was going on I had a bit of time to meal prep some for the week. Since leaving work I am been off my meal prepping game. I have found I am just spending too much time during Mason’s naps prepping or cooking for the next meal. I could be using this time to study, work, or blog. So here is getting back to it!
Mason woke up about 7:30 and was ready to go! After some breakfast and play it was quickly time to get ready and out the door for church.
After church, we truly had our first lazy Sunday afternoon. DC took a great nap. We played and grilled out before heading back to church Sunday night. At church that sang Happy Birthday to me and asked how old I was. Fun right? At least they gave me cookies for the embarrassment.
Now we are off to a pretty busy week. Hope you guys have a great day!
Question: Donut or donut hole? Are you big on birthdays? Have you tried ThredUP? Do you meal prep?
